Doctrinal Statement
New Hope Bible Church is an autonomous, independent, evangelical ecclesiastical assembly that identifies itself as a Full Gospel Church. This means that we are closely associated with both the charismatic and pentecostal movements, with an emphasis on biblical orthodoxy.
HOLY SCRIPTURES
We believe that the Bible, both Old and New Testaments, is the verbal, plenary, and divinely inspired word of God; trustworthy, authoritative, infallible, totally true, inerrant in it’s original writings. It was reliably written down and recorded for us by holy men of old as they were inspired by the Holy Spirit.
We believe that the Bible alone and in it’s entirety is the complete revelation of God’s will for the salvation of mankind, and the final authority for all that we believe as the rule of faith and what we do in conduct and lifestyle as genuine Christians.
THE GODHEAD
We believe that there is but one living and true God who is eternal, spirit, immortal, omniscient, omnipresent, omnipotent, sovereign diety, invisible, and immutable. God is holy, righteous, gracious, faithful, compassionate, loving, just, and true.
In the unity of the triune Godhead, there are three infinitely perfect and eternally co-existing persons, of one substance, equal in divine attributes, each distinguishable from the other, indivisible in essence and purpose; but executing distinct but harmonious offices.
(a) God the Father, the Creator of heaven and earth, and all that is therein; He orders all things after the counsel of His own will, saves all that come to Him on the basis that He sent His only Son to redeem and reconcile the world to Himself.
(b) Jesus Christ, the only begotten Son, born of the virgin Mary, conceived by the Holy Spirit; became flesh and dwelt among us; the only Mediator between God and man. He is the image of the invisible God, and was sent by the Father to reveal Him.
(c) Holy Spirit, the Comforter, the Spirit of Truth; the one who guides those who yield themselves to His ministration; fulfilling on earth the office of reprover of sin, righteous- ness, and judgment; He bears witness to the truth of the Gospel; he baptizes us into the Body of Christ. He was active in creation, He is the agent of regeneration, the new birth; He enables us to live in ways that are pleasing to God, and makes the presence of Jesus Christ real to us.
The Eternal Godhead is the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. God the Father is God, but He is not God the Son, nor is He God the Holy Spirit. In like manner, God the Holy Spirit is God, but He is not God the Father, nor is He God the Son. Jesus, God the Son as the Son of God, is not God the Father, nor is He God the Holy Spirit.
JESUS CHRIST
We believe in His virgin birth, His incarnation, His diety, God manifest in the flesh; true God, true man. We believe in His sinless humanity, His miracles, His atoning death and bodily resurrection; His ascension to the right hand of the Father, His high priestly function; and His personal, future return to this earth, as King of Kings and Lord of Lords, in power and glory, to rule and reign with His saints.
We believe that the substitutionary death of Jesus Christ and His bodily resurrection provide the only ground for justification, forgiveness, redemption, reconciliation, and salvation for all who put their trust in and obey Him.
We believe that Jesus is the Way, the Truth, and the Life; that there is no other name given under heaven by which men must be saved; He alone is the only way of salvation, the only means to be reconciled to a Holy God.
REGENERATION
We believe that man was created innocent and sinless, in the image of God; but by voluntary transgression, fell from edenic holiness and purity, and thereby incurred not only physical death, but spiritual death, which is separation from God. We believe that this sin nature was passed on to the whole human race as original sin. We believe that while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us; the just for the unjust; that His death was by divine appointment of the Father as an atonement for sin.
We believe that for the salvation of lost and sinful man, regeneration by the Holy Spirit , being born again, is absolutely essential. Through repentance toward God and conversion, by simple faith and acceptance of the Lord Jesus Christ as our personal Savior, by all those that call upon His name, we may be justified by faith in Him and His finished work. That salvation is freely given, it is by grace through faith, it is not on the basis of works, the keeping of the law, or any other merit on man’s part, and man thus is reconciled and becomes an heir of God.
DAILY CHRISTIAN LIVING
We believe that having been born again and cleansed from our sins by the precious blood of Jesus, we should desire the sincere milk of the Word, that we might grow thereby, walking humbly in faith and love, and seeking the hidden life that will truly reflect the Christ within. We believe that God has called every believer to live a life separate from sin and characterized by the Fruit of the Spirit.
We believe that the scriptures teach a life of holiness, without which no man shall see God.
By the power of the Holy Spirit, we are able to obey the command to "be holy, for I am holy".
We are kept by the power of God unto salvation, we have a heart of love for the Lord that compels us to be quick to repent when sin is found in our lives, and to go on to maturity, being conformed to the image of Jesus Christ.
Those that have been called of God and set apart by him depart from iniquity, lay aside all filthiness of the flesh and spirit, grow in grace, progressively perfecting holiness in the fear of the Lord.
WATER BAPTISM
We believe that water baptism by immersion is a mandate of our Lord; that it is an outward sign of an inward circumcision of the heart, where our old nature is cut-off, and it is a desire to identify with the Lordship of Jesus Christ. It is a type for us of the death, burial, and resurrection of the Lord Jesus Christ in which we are to identify and follow.
It is for believers only, those who have repented and have been born again of His Spirit; it is not a ritual or a tradition. It is one of the essential ordinances for laying of a spiritual foundation in the life of the believer so that he/she may go on with the Lord into full maturity.
THE GIFTS OF THE SPIRIT
We believe that Jesus Christ is the same, yesterday, today, and forever. We believe that He continues to baptize us with the Holy Spirit and fire just as He did on the day of Pentecost; this is the normal experience for all. We believe in the continuing empowerment ministry of the Holy Spirit as evidenced in charismatic gifts and ministries, and in His fruit in the life of the believer.
We believe that the Holy Spirit has definite supernatural spiritual gifts to bestow upon the believing church of Jesus Christ. These gifts are divided to every man severally as the Holy Spirit wills, and should be desired by every believer, in the order and proportion by which they will best edify and benefit the Church.
LORD’S SUPPER
We believe that the Lord’s Supper is a memorial of His suffering and death. The broken bread, used in its commemoration is a type of the bread which came down from heaven, even the Lord Jesus Christ, whose body was broken for us.
The symbol of the wine, is to remind us of His own blood that Jesus, the Lamb of God, shed that obtained eternal redemption for us. As often as we partake together we proclaim the Lord’s death and the fact that He is coming again.
RESURRECTION
We believe in the resurrection of both the saved and the lost; they that are saved, whose names are written in the Lamb’s Book of Life; unto the resurrection of eternal life, in a glorified state, to a reward of everlasting life and joy in the presence of the Lord. Those that are lost unto the resurrection of eternal punishment, separation from God, the reward of eternal grief, regret, and sorrow from which there is no escape.
THE CHURCH
We believe that the universal Church is the Body of Christ, Jesus Christ being the Head; the habitation of God by the Spirit; a living organism, not a building or a denomination, and that every genuinely born again, professing believer is a member of that body.
We believe that God places us in local assemblies in specified geographical areas as it pleases Him; to covenant together under the Lordship of Jesus Christ; to walk in the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace; for the purpose of participating in the life of the congregation.
MINISTRY
We believe in the ministry of evangelism and missionary outreach divinely called by our Lord, the Great Commission, which is for the express purpose of soul winning and the carrying of the Everlasting Gospel to the whole world. We believe that the Church has the duty to carry on what the Lord started in the earth, as ministers of reconciliation and His ambassadors.
Just as Jesus went about doing good and healing all those that were oppressed of the devil, even so God has ordained that the same work continue in healing, deliverance, and ministry to the whole man, such that we are made every whit whole, and we are presented to Christ, complete and mature as overcomers.
Under the authority of the Leadership Team, we believe in body ministry in which every member, as partakers of the royal priesthood, is anointed, gifted, called, and equipped by the Lord for works of service, in word and deed, for the edifying of the Body of Christ.
